Yiddish For Kids 1 - AlefBeys

Yiddish For Kids 1 - AlefBeys

Description

Yiddish For Kids 1 "AlefBeys" is a tool for learning to read and WRITE YIDDISH letters quickly on the iPhone or the iPod touch.

Its intuitive interface combines shape, sound, text and movement to allow everyone to find their own way to learn the AlefBeys.

The "AlefBeys" tab shows the letters in a group or one by one. You can hear their name and their pronunciation IN YIDDISH. The letters are displayed in vivid, attractive colors and you can choose between printed and handwritten shapes.

In the "Training" tab, you'll be able to DRAW THE LETTERS (handwritten only, of course) directly on the screen! The software keeps you on the right track and congratulates you when you reach the end. That way you'll learn the right gesture... and without wasting paper!

Lastly, the "Song" tab, says the alphabet in a traditional way and helps you memorize it in the right order.

LEARN SWIFTLY little ones !! Because other Yiddish For Kids apps are coming soon, and you'll need to master the letters in order to deal with words...

A very good basic trainer

This is an excellent tool for learning the Yiddish alef-beys, and is good for refreshing the memory as well. The navigation is relatively clear, and absolutely simple to use. The opening screen IS the alef-beys; there is no clutter in the presentation whatsoever.

There are a number of touches that make this a better-than-average app: the choice of print or hand-written forms; subtle changes to show that a letter has been successfully clicked (changing its color or making it spin around); positive reinforcement (in Yiddish) when a letter is successfully drawn.

My only quibble is that the 'song' isn't musical, but a recitation only. Still, both I and my two-year-old find it both educational and entertaining.
